Set in San Francisco in the early 1980s, Making Porn, focuses on the lives of six people involved in the gay pornography industry. Jack Hawk, a straight, out-of-work actor is hired by gay porn producer, Arthur Mack, to star in his newest porn movie entitled, Cops. Included in the films cast are Ray Tanner, a jaded porn star of 70 films and a bright, young new-commer named Ricky. Complications arise when Jacks wife, Linda, finds out about her husbands new career and Arthur's lover, Jamie, falls in love with one of the actors.

A Brief History

Making Porn had it's world premiere in Chicago in July of 1995 at the Theatre Building.

The original title was supposed to be "Six People Making Porn".

The first production featured no porn stars.

The actors were paid 50 dollars a piece for the entire run.

There was no money for advertising.

There was no advance press or publicity.

The poster was done at Kinkos for 11 cents a copy.

A cheap, photocopied, black and white poster was plastered all over the city with the image above of Eric Jirak as Jack Hawk.

The first preview was sold-out.

The reviews were horrible.

More sold-out shows.

Everytime a bad review came out our ticket advance grew.

More performances were added.

Then it went to LA...
