I question the usefulness of bumper sticker slogans like "Silence = Death" or "Get high. Get stupid. Get AIDS." Although the catchphrases are indeed catchy they are also incredibly simple and condescending.
A very intelligent and thoughtful friend recently told me the story of how he contracted a highly dangerous sexual disease. He thought he was having safe sex. He thought he was protected. He'd been having sex for years without drugs and with condoms. When we talked about the incident he had more questions than answers and I think alot of people are in his boat.
This documentary, A Positive Experience, aims to break thru the generalities and get to the specifics. We are looking for people willing to discuss the specifics surrounding their HIV infection. When did it happen? What were the circumstances? Did you think you were having safe sex? Do you know who infected you? Are you still in contact with that person? What impact, if any, did the infection have on your life?
If you're willing to open up and share your story with us we want to talk to you. We can film you in your home, you can come to us or we can meet you in a nuetral location. We want you to be comfortable.
We are also interested in talking to people who deal with HIV; doctors, counselors, friends, volunteers as well as people who are about to be tested. We are looking for a few individuals who will let us follow them thru the testing process.
Although the filmmakers are based in Southern California and New York we want to hear from people all over the world. We will even accept homemade video, we can do online interviews and even phone interviews. We want to hear from a variety of people; gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, male, female, young, old.
